Lead Teacher Job Description


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/Education or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field other than Early Childhood Education or Child Development and three (3) months of qualifying child care experience
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (AA, AAS, AAT)
  • At least 2 years experience working with children
  • Has a positive outlook on life and infuses the atmosphere with joy, peace, and resilience
  • Has a cooperative and teachable spirit
  • Has First Aid and CPR certification
  • Loves children

Required Qualifications

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential issued by the Council for Professional Recognition
  • Child Development and Related Care diploma from a vocational institute accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and 2 years experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field other than Early Childhood Education or Child Development and three (3) months of qualifying child care experience
  • Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
  • Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) in School Age and Youth Care
  • 2 years experience working with children

Responsibilities

  • Assess the developmental needs of each child
  • Tailors the existing curriculum for the needs of the students
  • Develops, plans and prepares instructional aides and materials for their classroom
  • Assists and supervises children during activities
  • Counsels children when social or adjustment issues arise
  • Maintains attendance records, incident reports, and daily notes for the children’s files
  • Ensures the cleanliness of classroom and facility are maintained
  • Assures that equipment, toys, playground, etc are maintained and in good working order
  • Maintains current licensure and certification requirements
  • Works cooperatively with director and assistant teacher to facilitate each child receiving the best care and instruction possible
  • Maintains a positive, happy, work environment
  • Creates a fun, beautiful space by maintaining classroom bulletin boards, walls and the arrangement of play/work centers
  • Maintains communication with parents through social communication networks, emails, newsletters, pictures, etc. so that parents have a good sense of the daily activities of their child
  • Acts as Staff Lead when director is absent
  • Assists with planning and implementing center-wide events
  • Assists children with meal time and clean-up
  • May assist in subsequent training of new personnel and interviewing
